Tesco magazine announced as the UK’s biggest read

16 November 2012

Tesco magazine has overtaken The Sun to claim the title of most read printed publication in the UK, according to the latest report from the National Readership Survey (NRS).

Following year-on-year growth of eight per cent during the period (October 2011 – September 2012) Tesco magazine has a readership of 7·221m, exceeding all national press (dailies and Sundays) and magazines.

The NRS report shows The Sun has a readership of 7·1m. Tesco’s competitor Asda magazine has 6m readers, while Sainsbury’s magazine has 3·4m and Your M&S has 3·7m. Tesco magazine is published by content marketing agency Cedar.

Prior to the report, Tesco held the title of the UK’s most-read women’s magazine, trumping other supermarket and newsstand publications. It currently has an ABC certified circulation of nearly two million.

Tesco magazine’s editor Helen Johnston said: “Tesco magazine succeeds because of our unique reader insight, award-winning features and unprecedented reach.”

“What's clear from these results is that right now, when it comes to print, branded content is king.”
