· Contract: 3-month freelance role, 4 days per week
Overview
This role is responsible for the ideation and creation of compelling, culturally relevant recipe content, primarily for Tesco magazine but also the Tesco Recipes website. Working closely with the Head of Food and Group Content Director, you will stay on top of trends, develop and pitch ideas (both to Cedar colleagues and Tesco clients) and, working in the Cedar test kitchen, test and fine-tune recipes at speed. You will be an autonomous, trusted and organised presence, working with the editorial, art, subs and account management teams to prepare recipe for shoots and publication.
Key Responsibilities
Recipe ideation
· Stay on top of food trends and social media to inform ideas and provide a pipeline of fresh, iconic recipes that will appeal to a 25- to 39-year-old demographic
· Keep up to speed on Tesco product ranges, campaigns and key messaging, considering how to use these to create recipe content that will appeal to this audience
· Keep an eye on the Tesco Kitchen social recipes to ensure our content aligns and fits with Uncovered’s schedules
· Develop recipe ideas/features, feeding ideas into a shared document for discussion with the editorial team
· Address any questions and make tweaks to recipe ideas as required, suggesting new recipes where needed
· Talk clients through recipes when required – for example, in the monthly content planning meeting – explaining your rationale and why the recipe works for the Tesco audience
· Work with the Head of Food and Group Content Director, as required, to help develop cover ideas
Recipe development
· Generate recipe ideas using knowledge of food scene, social trends and AI to ensure they tap into the zeitgeist and adhere to Tesco’s strict criteria
· Ensure they contain a reasonable number of ingredients, all available at Tesco
· Be mindful of GDAs and health guidelines, working with nutritionist on GDAs and using AI tools to ensure recipes meet agreed nutritional criteria
· Write up recipes to ensure they are accurate, easy to understand and as succinct as possible
· Help compile and keep up to date a full list of recipes being featured in each issue
· Work with account management team stock availability to ensure ingredients will be available at the time of publication, and before the recipe is shot
Recipe testing
· Take responsibility for ordering food (to be delivered to Cedar test kitchen)
· Test recipes and ensure they taste great and are not too tricky to make
· Keep test kitchen well-stocked, ensuring staples are streamlined and in date
· Follow agreed health and safety rules in the test kitchen, keeping it clean and tidy at all times
· Attend shoots on an ad-hoc basis, assisting the freelance Home Economist when required and occasionally acting as Home Economist (dependant on experience/workload)
· Occasional retesting of the Tesco Kitchen social recipes to ensure they fit with Tesco mag and online criteria
Team collaboration
· Work closely with editorial, design, account management and subs teams to manage production effectively
· Contribute to improved ways of working and team efficiency
· Build good working relationships with day-to-day clients and other agencies, as required
Skills, Capabilities & Tools/Tech Exposure
Must Have
· Experience in developing recipes for a print publication and/or websites
· Good writing, organisational and communication skills
· Confidence managing multiple projects and stakeholders
· Good understanding of magazine production
· Proficient in Microsoft office (Outlook / Word / Excel)
Nice to Have
· Food qualification/food certification
· Experience in retail or FMCG
· Exposure to CoPilot and other AI tools
